Custom add-ons are curated for a personalized & memorable experience.
When making a reservation, these Add-Ons will appear as an option once yurts and dates have been selected.
Guided Kayak Session
This is a great option if you are new to sea kayaking, have a family with younger children, or if you want to learn more about the wildlife and scenery of the Kenai Fjords from our knowledgeable guide. Get comfortable with the kayaking gear and learn how to paddle safely while reaching one of our nearby kayaking destinations. Oftentimes guests feel comfortable enough with sea kayaking by the end of their guided session to continue paddling self-guided for the remainder of their stay.

Boat tour of Kenai Fjords National Park
We work with a locally owned, small-boat tour company called Sound Water Tours to offer guests the experience of embarking on a boat tour of Kenai Fjords National Park directly from our dock at Shearwater Cove! A 'small-boat' tour means that there will be no more than 6 people on the boat. This creates a highly personalized trip with the greatest possible flexibility to customize the tour based on your interests. At Shearwater Cove you will have an intimate, immersive experience of the Kenai Fjords, and on the boat tour you will gain a big-picture perspective of the Park's dramatic coastline, have more chances of seeing wildlife including humpback and orca whales, and see calving tidewater glaciers.
Details:
Trip length: 7 hours, 9:00am-4:00pm.
Two options for booking:
Book the tour for a middle day during your multi-night stay at Shearwater Cove. In this case, the boat would pick you up from Shearwater Cove between 9:00-9:30am, and return you to the yurts at about 4:00pm.
Book the tour for your day of check-out. On the morning of check-out the boat would pick you up from Shearwater Cove with all of your luggage at 9:00-9:30am. At the end of the tour, the boat would return you to the Seward Harbor at about 4:00pm.
Cost: $350 per person plus tax & fees.
Boat details: The Stoic is a 30-foot fiberglass Highliner boat with a slight walkaround deck plus a flybridge for viewing up top. The Stoic is a very comfortable boat with a large cabin offering cushioned seats, windows for indoor viewing, and a marine toilet. The spacious back deck has a hard top roof for cover in case of rain. Due to her shape and material, the Stoic is especially stable. She has the speed of a small boat and the comfort, stability, and extra viewing options of a big boat.
Your Captain: Captain Anthony Harris was born and raised in Seward, Alaska and has been around the water since before he could walk. He is passionate about giving others the chance to experience the awe of Alaska's pristine coastal waters and wildlife.
Larger boats are available to charter for group reservations. Please inquire if your group is larger than 6 people.
Food Preparation
Shearwater Cove is a remote wilderness location, and traditional food service is not available at the Cove. Each yurt has a private kitchen for preparing meals, and guests shop for food for the duration of their stay prior to boarding our boat. That said, we realize that shopping for groceries in the middle of vacation can be a hassle, and even totally out of the question for larger groups. Below is our food preparation option so that you don’t have to meal plan and grocery shop during vacation!
Build a menu, we shop, you cook. Work with us to build a menu for your stay. We do the shopping and have everything conveniently packaged and labeled for you at check-in. You prepare the meals in your yurt’s kitchen.
Cost of food plus $50 per person, per night
This add-on pairs especially well for guests who are arriving in Seward on the Alaska Railroad and checking in with us on the same day. There is only a 40 minute window between the train arrival at 11:20am and checking in to meet our boat at 12:00pm, so trying to purchase groceries in Seward and meet our boat on time is difficult.
Sunset Cruises & More!
