What should I pack?

recommendations for your stay at Shearwater Cove!

  • Pack Lightly. There are several flights of stairs from our dock to your yurt, so we recommend that guests pack with backpacks/soft luggage as opposed to large rolling bags. If you have excess luggage that you do not want to bring with you to the yurts, we recommend either contacting Orange Bike Luggage Service or storing luggage in your car in the harbor parking lot. We have never had theft issues in the recommended harbor parking lot.

  • Ice. Each yurt has a Yeti-style ice chest for keeping cold foods. Please bring your own ice. Our boat has storage for transporting bags of ice from the harbor to the Cove. Please do not bring styrofoam coolers.

  • Rain Gear. The Kenai Fjords comprise the northern boundary of the Pacific Northwest Rain Forest. Both a rain jacket and rain pants are recommended.

  • Footwear. Bring a pair of outdoor shoes that can get wet and muddy as well as a pair of indoor shoes for being cozy after the day’s adventures.

  • Layers. Summer mornings and evenings can be cool in Alaska, but as you start paddling a kayak or hiking up the trail you will warm up and want to shed some layers.

  • Food. Plenty of food and snacks. There is no food service at the yurts. Check out our ‘Sample Menu’ blog for meal ideas.

    • If you plan to bring alcohol please note that liquor stores in Seward do not open until 10am. If your check-in time to meet our boat in the Seward harbor is 10am, please purchase your alcohol the night before. Glass is heavy, cans and boxes are light!
