What should I pack?

here is a list of items that we recommend you bring for your stay at Shearwater Cove:

  • Pack Lightly. There are a few flights of stairs from our dock to your yurt, so we recommend guests bring backpacks/light luggage as opposed to large, heavy rolling bags. The harbor parking lot for guest parking is regularly monitored. We have had no issues with guests leaving extra luggage in their car that they don't need while at the yurts.

  • Ice. Each yurt has an ice chest for keeping cold foods, but please bring your own ice. We have storage on our boat for transporting bags of ice from the harbor to the Cove. Please do not bring Styrofoam coolers.

  • Rain Gear! Seward has high levels of precipitation. Both a rain jacket and rain pants are recommended for staying warm and dry if kayaking in the rain.

  • Synthetic or Wool layering. Summer mornings/evenings may be cool in Alaska, but as you get moving in a kayak you are bound to warm up and want to shed some layers. Avoid cotton layers.

  • Proper Footwear. A pair of outdoor shoes and a pair of indoor shoes. After kayaking and hiking all day your shoes are bound to be damp or muddy, so bring a pair of comfy shoes to wear indoors at night.

  • Food. Plenty of food and snacks. We do not supply food.

  • Alcohol. If you plan to bring alcohol please purchase it the night before your stay as liquor stores in Seward do not open until 10 am. Glass is heavy, cans and boxes are light!
